The MIRLIN SDK is FotoNation’s starting point for customers developing iris recognition solutions. This fully featured toolkit enables us to support our partners to build iris recognition engines, enrollment and ID management applications that use iris image or template databases.
IMAGE QUALITY ASSESSMENT
Conforms to the requirements of ISO/IEC 19794-6:2011. Includes functions for fast focus assessment, iris and pupil sizes and ratios, eye occlusion (visible iris area), dynamic range and other parameters that enable quick acceptance or rejection of raw images.

MIRLIN’s high efficiency template encoding is based on a proprietary, patented technique. Enrollment templates are ~600 bytes in size. At identification time, a series of up to 25 rotations can be generated to compensate for live test (probe) images that are rotated / offset compared with the original enrollment image.

IMAGE TYPE CONVERSION
MIRLIN supports Type 3 / Type 7 compact inter-operable iris image formats defined in ISO/IEC 19794-6:2011 standard. These formats enable exchange of iris image data without compromising the ability of other algorithms to work cross-platform.
MIRLIN includes functions that enable camera and systems developers to include liveness and spoof detection functions by analyzing real-time changes.
MIRLIN’s uses a technique for scoring the match based on a weighted combination of the Hamming Distance of sub-features within the encoded iris template. This is what enables MIRLIN’s industry leading matching speed – especially important in high volume 1:N search and enrollment de-duplication systems.

FotoNation has significant know-how in LED illumination control, shutter and exposure control, image read-out and synchronization.
Eye safety important (ISO 62471); most LEDs are eye-safe, but end-products MUST be tested and certified. The illumination solution will provide close LED control so average power demand will be low.
