The Motion Detection Engine, or MDE, is the IP core implementation of FotoNation’s motion analysis technology.

Starting from the coarsest level, motion information is analyzed and refined, so its accuracy increases with each level, until the last level is reached.

MDE is an enabling technology that provides an understanding of the local and global motion within the scene, then works together with Distortion Correction Engine (DCE) to provide outstanding results on all image processing pipelines.

APPLICATIONS

Today we live in a mobile world characterized by perpetual movement. Almost every second of our lives is in constant motion. Be it on our way to the office, riding a skateboard, canoe or bicycle on a mountain road, all of us love capturing these moments to share them with our friends.

In this context understanding local and global motion within a scene has become a crucial component in any technology in order to deliver a top notch user experience.

We understand that a product is as strong as its weakest incorporated technology but today, in the context of motion, this comes with a price. Computing a map of displacement vectors or effectively measuring motion on rectangular regions can put a heavy burden on system performance. But we’re working to change this paradigm and deliver the ultimate user experience.
